Warrick County storms prompt a disaster declaration

Warrick County Commissioners have declared a disaster. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Commissioners issued the declaration today (Wed) after Tuesday night’s severe storms and what they called a “likely tornado” that hit Warrick County.

The disaster declaration is in effect for ten days.

Commissioners say the Warrick County Highway Department will pick up and dispose of vegetation debris placed within 10’ of the edge of roadways.

Officials ask that the vegetation be no longer than 8 feet and have a diameter of two feet or less.

The county says no construction, building materials or trash will be picked up.

Commissioners say the goal is to open roadways first and then start the debris collection on Monday.

Contractors cleaning up storm debris are responsible for hauling away the debris.

Residents may also bring vegetation debris to the Solid Waste Management Facility on Pelzer Road or the Vann Road Park facility on Vann Road.

The facilities will be available for residents to dispose of storm debris at no charge for the duration of the Declared Emergency.
