Utility crews are working to restore power to thousands of people in southwest Indiana during a heat wave. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
CenterPoint Energy says Tuesday night’s severe storms knocked out electricity to about 33,000 customers.
As of midday Wednesday, crews had reduced the number of outages to about 8,000.
CenterPoint says more than 400 line-skills and vegetation management professionals are working to restore power.
The company notes hospitals, water treatment plants, and public service facilities are given priority when restoring electricity.
Crews then make repairs to restore power to the largest number of customers first, continuing the process until power is fully restored.
People without electricity are dealing with a lack of air conditioning during a Heat Advisory.
The City of Evansville has activated its temporary cooling shelter at the C.K. Newsome Center; in Warrick County, a cooling shelter has been activated in Newburgh at the Castle High School gym; and a cooling shelter has been opened at Main Street Methodist United Methodist Church in Boonville.
