The law firm Woods and Woods is covering the cost of flying veterans to D.C. this fall

The next Honor Flight is set for October 5th, thanks to an Evansville law firm. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Honor Flight of Southern Indiana Vice President Diane Shaw recalls a meeting with Neil Woods, the president of Woods and Woods.

Shaw says Woods asked her how much it costs to fly 86 veterans from Evansville to Washington D.C.:

"I said well, 43,000 is the minimum and he said 'done.' Just like that. And I just went 'what, what ?' You know, somebody doesn't just say 'done' instantly with $43,000 but he did."

Woods says his firm -- which specializes in veteran law -- also wanted to do more than write a check:

"We also wanted to have our people get involved. So you know, we're going to be providing volunteers for all the dinners and events leading up to Honor Flight."

Woods notes that the flight is especially important to veterans of the Vietnam War:

"As we all know, our Vietnam veterans did not receive ticker-tape parades and they didn't exactly get welcome home parades either. So you know, to a lot of them this provides some closure, some support."

This year is the tenth anniversary of Honor Flight.

The non-profit has flown more than 1,200 area veterans to the nation’s capital to see the monuments erected in their honor.
