A western Kentucky highway has reopened following a crash and a day-long cleanup. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
Transportation Cabinet crews spent most of Thursday working to clean-up Interstate 165, southeast of Owensboro.
The highway was shut down when a truck crashed and spilled nearly 500 gallons of molten aluminum.
Officials feared the cleanup would take two days but the Transportation Cabinet says crews were able to safely reopen both northbound lanes of the interstate just before 8:00 Thursday night.
In addition to the northbound lanes blocked by the crash, one southbound lane was closed so personnel could work safely.
The Transportation Cabinet says I-165 will remain open all weekend during Owensboro’s ROMP festival, but crews will return next week to resurface the damaged area.
