As the heat wave continues, so does the threat of ozone pollution. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has extended its Air Quality alert through at least Friday across much of the state, including southern Indiana.
The combination of sunny skies, light winds and temperatures reaching the mid-90’s continues to raise the risk of ground level ozone.
The ozone levels are expected to reach the orange level – unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Persons with lung or heart conditions are urged to limit time outdoors and take advantage of air conditioning.
All of us are advised to stay hydrated.
The city of Evansville has opened a daytime cooling station at the C.K. Newsome Center at the corner of Walnut and Heidelbach.
The heat and humidity are expected to continue on Saturday with a chance of some relief on Sunday in the form of showers and thunderstorms.
