CenterPoint and 2 Others Propose Settlement

File

The deal would reduce the original residential rate increases by about $12 a month

CenterPoint Energy and two other groups are offering a settlement that would decrease proposed electric rate hikes in southwest Indiana. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The utility company says the settlement involving SABIC and Indiana Industrial Group would reduce its initial requested rate increases by nearly $40 million from $118 million to $80 million.

It would also delay a bill increase until March 2025.

The company says the settlement would lower the average residential increase from the original proposal by more than $12 a month, from a roughly $47 hike to about a $35 increase.

It would also lower the fixed portion of the bill from $23 to $11 for residential customers.

But the proposed settlement is not sitting well with the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor, the Citizens Action Coalition, or the Evansville City Council, all of which oppose the deal.

Public comment on the rate increases will be accepted until July 12th.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is expected to decide the rate case this fall.
