Former Vanderburgh County Clerk Marsha Abell will temporarily replace Carla Kayden

A familiar face will take over as Vanderburgh County Clerk, just over two months before a major election. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

A Republican caucus Wednesday night chose former county clerk Marsha Abell.

She will replace current clerk Carla Hayden, who announced plans to retire last month.

Hayden cited harassment from what she called “election deniers.”

The county clerk serves as the chief elections officer.

Hayden leaves the office at the end of August, when Abell will take over and serve until a new elected clerk takes office January 1st.

Republican Dottie Thomas is the only candidate for the office at this point.

Local Democrats have not announced a candidate.

Abell previously served as county clerk for two terms. She’s also served as Evansville city clerk, a county commissioner, and in other offices.
