Toyota plans to build a new electric SUV at its Gibson County plant. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The automaker says it’s investing $1.4 billion in the Princeton plant, preparing for the assembly of an all-new, three-row battery electric SUV.
The expansion at the plant is expected to create up to 340 new jobs, with assembly of the BEV to start in 2026.
The company will also add a new battery pack assembly line.
Tami Hack is president of the Gibson County Economic Development Corporation:
"So thrilled that Toyota sees our community as a place that they can continue to grow and can continue to find the employees they need."
Hack says she heads up an effort for more housing in the Princeton area:
"That is definitely going to need to continue as we would hope that some of these new employees will reside here in Gibson County."
The plant is currently home to more than 7,500 Toyota team members who assemble the Sienna, Highlander, Grand Highlander and the Lexus TX.
