The opportunity fair will highlight career opportunities available for upcoming graduates, especially African-American males, with hopes to provide employment access to students who are not attending college or enlisting in the military.
City Councilman, Alex Burton, hopes the event will help change the trends for African American males in Indiana following graduation.
“The school-to-prison pipeline that is proven to be a real thing - because that is something that exists, we want to combat that, but then also provide real opportunities to jobs that pay incredibly well and are not dead-end jobs- That can literally lead to prospering careers.”
Burton said these employers will be looking for those who will show up everyday, have a good attitude, and do what they are asked to do.
“We thought this would be a great thing to begin to have on a yearly basis. But then also bringing our employers directly to students who are going to be looking for jobs.”
The fair will be held on Friday, April 26th from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Old National Events Plaza.
