Forecasters are calling for severe storms in the Tri-State this Thursday afternoon and night. WNIN’s John Gibson has the latest:
The National Weather Service has placed the region in a zone of “Enhanced Risk” for severe weather.
The risk level is 3rd on a five-level scale of severe storm chances.
Forecasters say the main line of storms ahead of a cold front is expected to move through the Evansville area between 6 and 9 p.m.
Keith Cooley is the lead forecaster for the weather service in Paducah. He says the main concern is damaging straight-line winds:
"Maybe some large hail, I think that's maybe sort of on the lower end threat with that. And then a few spin-up tornadoes along the line as it punches into the area."
Numerous tornadoes rolled through the region on April 2nd, causing damage and knocking out power to thousands.
Forecasters say Thursday night’s storms will be followed by cooler air, with high temperatures in the low 60’s over the weekend.
We’ve seen unseasonably warm temperatures this week.
