County Clerk Hayden to Retire

Vanderburgh County
Vanderburgh County Clerk Carla Hayden

The Republican plans to step down before the November election

The Vanderburgh County Clerk plans to step down before the November election. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Carla Hayden says she will likely retire in August.

Hayden cites threats she’s received from people she believes support former President Donald Trump.

The 62-year-old Republican told the Evansville Courier and Press that she hasn’t received any “physical threats” but she’s received other types of threats via social media and phone calls.

The local GOP will have to caucus to fill the clerk’s position.

County Treasurer Dottie Thomas, a Republican candidate for clerk this year, has said she doesn't want to be selected for the office before the Nov. 5 general election.

Democrats have not filed a candidate for County Clerk, who oversees elections.
