Thousands of area residents spent the night without electricity after Tuesday’s (Tues) severe storms. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
CenterPoint Energy says a second round of storms Tuesday afternoon caused more damage to the company’s electric system in southwest Indiana.
As of 6:00 this (Wed) morning, crews had reduced the number of customers without power to about 7,500.
The utility company says at its peak, 24,000 customers lost electricity in Tuesday’s pre-dawn storms, which likely contained tornadoes.
The company says customers should stay at least 35 feet away from downed power lines and report them to CenterPoint at 800-227-1376.
You’re urged to be especially mindful of downed lines that could be hidden and treat all downed lines as if they are energized.
If your power is out, you’re advised to keep freezers and refrigerators closed as much as possible to help keep food fresh.
CenterPoint says only use a portable generator in a well-ventilated area and never run it indoors.
