Hotel rooms are still available in the Evansville area for the April 8th eclipse. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
Explore Evansville President and CEO Alexis Berggren has some advice for anyone still looking for a hotel room: contact the hotel directly:
"If you're looking to get a room say just on Sunday night before the eclipse and you're on Expedia looking for that room, it might look like it's sold out. But it's not because you don't know that they are looking for a 2-or-3 night room minimum. So call that hotel directly, ask them what their rates are, ask them if there's a requirement on length-of-stay, and they'll be able to take care of you."
Berggren says hotel occupancy in Evansville is running behind the 2017 eclipse, when totality occurred in western Kentucky.
"I think we can certainly attribute a lot of that occupancy to people coming here and staying and then driving into the more rural parts of Kentucky."
Berggren also notes a global pandemic happened since the last eclipse:
"Times and trends have changed and so it is hard to say that we're behind or we're not. I just think this is part of the shift in society in terms of length of planning and desire to maybe go out and do things and/or commit to those things until they have all the information."
Berggen still expects a lot of hotel bookings between now and the April 8th event.
