The National Weather service says the best chance for strong storms is late Thursday afternoon and evening in the Tri-State.
Forecasters say damaging winds and large hail are the main threats, but isolated tornadoes are also possible.
The area may also see heavy rain.
The risk of severe weather is generally higher west of the Tri-State, especially in southeast Missouri.
The stormy weather is forecast to move out of the area on Friday.
