The Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science has confirmed the public will soon see a work by Pablo Picasso. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
The Museum says a $52,000 state grant and gifts from private donors will renovate gallery space, update security systems, and create a proper viewing space to feature the glass mosaic by Picasso.
Officials say the Picasso will be displayed with other major works of art in the Museum’s collection.
Museum Executive Director Mary Bower says she’s excited to finally showcase what she calls an “exceptional Picasso artwork” to Tri-State residents and visitors from across the United States.
Bower says the museum appreciates the patience the community has shown.
She says the museum will announce the Picasso opening “in the coming months,” with museum members getting the first look.
The Picasso piece was in storage at the museum for decades. It was not believed to be a Picasso.
But in 2012, experts determined it had been mislabeled, actually bore the signature of the famous artist, and was likely worth millions of dollars.
It’s been kept in an undisclosed location ever since.
