EFD Chief Mike Connelly abruptly quit in September without explanation

We now know why Evansville Fire Chief Mike Connelly abruptly resigned last year. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

An investigation by the Evansville Courier and Press determined Connelly was accused of sexual harassment by a female subordinate.

The woman said Connelly repeatedly videotaped her with a cell phone -- without her consent.

Connelly’s successor, current chief Anthony Knight, told the publication the accusations were "credible" and violated the fire department's sexual harassment policy.

No criminal or civil charges have been filed against Connelly.

The Winnecke Administration refused to say why Connelly stepped down in September.

After learning of the allegations, Connelly was reportedly offered a choice to either resign or be fired.

Connelly chose to step down and retain benefits.

The Terry administration says the new mayor was made aware of the allegations in the past few weeks.

Knight said he first learned of them in February.
