Evansville area residents have the opportunity to tell state officials Thursday what they think of CenterPoint Energy’s proposed electric rate hike. WNIN’s John Gibson has a preview:
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is conducting two hearings at Old National Events Plaza in Downtown Evansville.
The first is at 2 p.m. The other is at 6 p.m.
The Office of Utility Consumer Counselor has said CenterPoint’s proposed rate increase would raise a residential electric bill for 1,000 kilowatt hours from about $207 to just over $253 a month.
The Evansville area already pays the highest residential electric costs in Indiana.
The utility company has said the increase is needed to improve its electric service and to work toward renewable energy sources.
The Evansville City Council, Vanderburgh County Commissioners, and Warrick County Commissioners have all passed resolutions opposing the rate hike.
