The goal is to attract more sports tourism

Officials are planning an $18 million indoor sports facility in Downtown Owensboro. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

It’s planned for the corner of 3rd and Cedar streets with the goal of hosting indoor sports and events like basketball, volleyball, dances, and even cornhole tournaments.

The facility will include seven basketball courts, which can be reconfigured for 14 volleyball courts or 28 pickleball courts.

The city is expected to consider construction bids by the end of March, with the goal of opening the facility late next year.

The city will also look for local artists to create a mural in the lobby.
