The GOP Chairman rejects a call to remove Canterbury from the ballot for voting Democratic in the 2022 primary

The head of the Vanderburgh County Republican Party says he fully supports Amy Canterbury as a candidate for County Commissioner. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

Chairman Mike Duckworth says he signed off on Canterbury’s candidacy for the District 3 seat, even though she voted on the Democratic ballot in the 2022 Primary.

State law allows a party chair to remove a candidate from the ballot if they did not vote for the party in two previous primaries.

Duckworth says he’s trying to expand the party and notes that Canterbury always voted Republican except for 2022.

Jason Gerteisen of Evansville filed a challenge to Canterbury’s candidacy.

In a release, Gertiseisen said Duckworth “should not undermine Republican office holders that have proven their value.”
