Bob Deig filed for the County Council seat January 31st

The former state senator was already running for the council seat

A vacant seat on the Vanderburgh County Council has been filled by a man who’s already running for the seat. WNIN’s John Gibson explains:

Democratic precinct committee members chose Bob Deig to fill the council seat formerly held by Mike Goebel.

Deig had already filed to run for the at-large seat prior to the caucus.

An earlier caucus chose Goebel to fill the County Commission seat opened by the resignation of Ben Shoulders.

Deig is a former state senator who has also served in Posey County government. He now lives in Vanderburgh County.

Both parties are offering a full slate County Council at-large candidates for the November election but not enough for a contested May Primary.

The Democrats are running Deig, Dustin Stephens and Karese Johnson for the three seats, while Republicans are offering incumbent Jill Hahn, Joe Kiefer II and Ed Bassemier.
