Vanderburgh County Democrats have chosen Mike Goebel to fill the rest of Ben Shoulders' term as a county commissioner. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
A caucus of Democratic precinct committee members elected Goebel on Saturday.
He’s been a member of the Vanderburgh County Council since 2004 and had already announced a run for the District One commission seat.
Shoulders announced last month that he was stepping down from the commission and taking a job in the private sector.
Meanwhile, one Republican candidate for the seat has dropped out of the race.
Longtime Evansville City Council Member Jonathan Weaver announced Friday he’s retiring from politics and returning to his TV roots.
Weaver, who is a meteorologist, has accepted a job at WEVV.
He lost his city council seat in the November election.
