The Evansville Mayor hopes to get city council approval in February

Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry has introduced members of her proposed Interfaith Council. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Terry says the 13-member council will include leaders from a wide variety of faiths:

"I'm excited to work with each of them to create an open dialogue where will can discuss issues, exchange ideas and work collaboratively to build an even better and stronger Evansville."

Rabbi Gary Mazo is one of the co-chairs of the group. He says faith leaders can come together on a number of issues:

"No child in our town should go to bed hungry. No human being should die on our streets due to exposure. We have the resources so that no one should be food or housing insecure."

The Rev. Adrian Brooks is the group’s other co-chair:

"So whatever your faith tradition might be, we hope and pray that this is an opportunity for you to see how the people of God, people of faith have come together to truly address the issues that confront our community in a faith-driven way, filtered by our faith."

The Evansville City Council is expected to vote on the creation of the interfaith group at its February 12th meeting.

The full Interfaith Council would hold quarterly meetings.
