Just hours after Vanderburgh County Commissioner Ben Shoulders announced he was stepping down, another Democrat stepped forward. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
Longtime County Councilman Mike Goebel announced his candidacy for the District 1 Commission seat being vacated by Shoulders.
But first, local Democrats will have to caucus to fill Shoulders’ seat for the rest of this year, because he’s leaving the commission this week.
The caucus may result in Goebel taking the commission seat before he runs for it in the May Primary.
The county council is the fiscal arm of county government, while the three-member commission is the executive arm – comparable to the city council and the mayor.
