Tax filing season is just around the corner. WNIN’s John Gibson reports Indiana will start accepting filings before the end of the month:
The Indiana Department of Revenue says you can file as soon as Monday, Jan. 29th.
That’s the same date the Internal Revenue Service will start accepting federal filings.
The Department of Revenue encourages customers to use electronic filing, online payment, and direct deposit to improve the accuracy and speed of the returns and refunds.
Customers must file both their state and federal tax returns and pay any taxes owed for 2023 by the usual deadline, Monday, April 15th.
Employers have until Jan. 31st to deliver Form W-2s to employees.
You’re urged not to file until you have all of your W-2s.
Some changes in Indiana tax law: the dependent exemption has increased from $1,500 to $3,000 for the first taxable year; all military pay for reserve members of the United States armed forces and National Guard is exempt from income tax; and the Indiana Earned Income Tax Credit is now 10% of the federal credit, with a prorated credit available for nonresidents.
