Jasper Train to Offer Eclipse Viewing

Spirit of Jasper

The Spirit of Jasper will ride on April 8th

You have an opportunity to view April’s total solar eclipse from the rails. WNIN’s John Gibson explains:

Officials in Jasper say you can “ride into totality” on the Spirit of Jasper excursion train during the eclipse on Monday, April 8th.

Jasper Park and Recreation says the train will depart the Jasper train depot at 2 p.m. Eastern Time – 1 p.m. Central -- for the journey into darkness.

Riders will disembark trackside in a remote area to view the eclipse before returning to Jasper at 4:30 p.m.

Officials say passengers will receive solar glasses and gear upon boarding the train. Snacks and a cash bar are available onboard.

The cost of the ride is $70 and tickets can be purchased online.

For more information, you can visit the Jasper Park and Recreation website or call the department at 812-482-5959.
