The Tri-State is dealing with high winds and heavy rain and bracing for a prolonged period of cold weather. WNIN’s John Gibson has the latest:
A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Evansville area until midnight Friday.
The National Weather Service is warning of winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
The wind has blown down tree limbs and power lines, causing scattered power outages.
Forecasters say we could see one-to-two inches of rain before colder air moves in, possibly changing the rain to sleet and snow by Friday night.
The National Weather Service says a strong arctic cold front will move into the region Saturday afternoon.
If temperatures don’t rise above freezing on Saturday, we could see six or more days in a row of the mercury staying below the freezing mark.
Low temperatures Saturday through Tuesday night are forecast to fall into or near single digits.
Below zero wind chills are likely.
Forecasters say accumulating snow remains possible, especially Monday, but forecast amounts are trending lower.
