USI Chooses Interim Safety Director

USI
Sam Preston, USI Interim Director of Public Safety

Sam Preston has been named interim director, after the retirement of Steve Bequette

USI has announced an interim director for public safety on the campus. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The university says Sam Preston has been named Interim Director, effective this weekend.

Preston will serve following the retirement of Steve Bequette, who served 15 years with USI Public Safety -- six of those years as Director.

Bequette previously served 34 years with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.

Prior to the new appointment, Preston served as Assistant Director of Public Safety at USI since May 2018. He spent 26 years with the Sheriff’s Office.

Preston is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, a certified Master Instructor by the State of Indiana, a peer support and suicide prevention instructor, and has served in crisis negotiation.

The search for a long-term Director of Public Safety at USI is expected to be completed this spring.
