Former Evansville Council-at-Large Member Jonathan Weaver

The longtime city councilor lost his reelection bid in November

A former Evansville City Council member has announced plans to run for Vanderburgh County Commissioner. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

Republican Jonathan Weaver lost his city council re-election bid in November.

Now, the former TV meteorologist and current realtor says he’s running for a seat on the three-member county commission.

Weaver first served as Vanderburgh County Assessor, before being elected to an at-large seat on the city council.

He served on the council for 12 years, changing his party affiliation from Democratic to Republican along the way.

Weaver lives in the county commission’s District 1, which is held by Democrat Ben Shoulders.

Shoulders has not yet announced whether he’ll run for reelection.

In a release, Weaver says after a tough year for the local Republican Party, he looks forward to reuniting the GOP and making sure the party runs “as a team.”
