The roughly $500,000 grant is part of Lilly's reading program

The Lilly Endowment has awarded a half-million dollar grant to the University of Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The grant is part of Lilly’s “Advancing the Science of Reading” initiative and will support UE’s School of Education.

The university says it’s one of 28 Indiana colleges and universities that received grants from Lilly to support efforts that integrate Science of Reading principles in teacher preparation programs.

UE Clinical Assistant Professor of Education, Dr. Sally Busby, says the grant not only empowers the institution but also signifies a collective commitment to advancing the science of reading in Indiana.

The Lilly Endowment launched the initiative in 2022, complementing an Indiana Department of Education effort to improve reading achievement in K-through-12 schools.
