The University of Evansville will mark the 46th anniversary of a devastating plane crash this week. WNIN’s John Gibson has a preview:
The university will host a ceremony to observe the December 13th, 1977 crash that killed the UE basketball team, their coach, and everyone else on board a chartered DC-3.
The plane carrying 29 souls crashed shortly after takeoff in rainy, foggy conditions -- just east of the Evansville airport.
The event became known as “the night it rained tears.”
The remembrance is set for noon Wednesday at Memorial Plaza on the UE campus, directly behind Olmsted Hall.
The service will include an invocation, special message, the reading of all 29 names, and a moment of silence.
