CenterPoint Energy is seeking another rate increase. WNIN's John Gibson has details:
CenterPoint has filed a new petition with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission that would raise monthly electric rates for a typical residential customer by about $10 in late 2024, nearly $6 in early 2025, and by more than $12 in early 2026.
CenterPoint says the rate increases would recover costs associated with capital projects over the past 14 years to support what the company calls “safe and reliable service to the company’s 150,000 customers.”
CenterPoint says the increases are also needed to recover costs associated with the company’s transition from a majority coal generation portfolio to one led by renewables.
(That includes the Posey Solar facility and two new, natural gas combustion turbines expected to be in service in 2025.)
CenterPoint says the base rate case is the utility’s first request since 2009, but just last week, the IURC approved a more than 200% increase in one of CenterPoint’s bill trackers.
That’s expected to add about $16 a month to the average residential electric bill.
