A passing EFD crew spotted the blaze on E. Louisiana St.

Five dogs are dead and four people are displaced after a house fire in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

Firefighters responded to 635 E. Louisiana St. at about 11:00 Wednesday morning when an EFD engine company returning to their station after training spotted smoke coming from the rear of the house.

The crew entered the house and found flames coming from the kitchen.

EFD Division Chief Mike Larson says firefighters made a “quick and aggressive attack” and the fire was considered extinguished in about 20 minutes.

Larson says there were six dogs, some in cages, along with other animals inside the house.

He says five of the six dogs died but the rest of the animals survived.

The Red Cross was contacted to help two adults and two children who were displaced by the fire.

Animal Control was called to assist with the animals and Center Point responded to cut utilities.

Larson says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
