The City Council redrew the boundaries last year

As voters go to the polls in the city election, some Evansville residents are finding themselves in a new ward. WNIN’s John Gibson explains:

The city council redrew the boundaries for Evansville’s six wards last year.

Council President Zach Heronimus says the biggest changes are in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th wards.

He tells WNIN the redistricting got rid of some oddly shaped wards:

"For example, the 3rd Ward which I represent stretched from the corner of Green River and Washington up to Pigeon Creek getting close to the country club."

Heronimus says the new wards should better serve residents:

"So, what we looked at was communities of interests that would better be served with similar issues and needs within those particular neighborhoods in the community."

The new boundaries were approved by the Democratic-controlled city council 7-2, mostly along party lines.

Early voting continues in several Evansville public libraries.

The municipal election is Nov. 7th.
