Propane Leak Disrupts Work at Berry Global

File

Workers were evacuated and nobody was hurt in Tuesday's leak

Leaking propane tanks forced an evacuation at the Berry Global plant in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

First responders were dispatched to the plant on Oakley St. at about 2:00 Tuesday afternoon.

Central Dispatch said numerous propane tanks were leaking at a loading dock on the Franklin St. side of the building.

The dock was evacuated as crews worked to stop the leaking valves.

An Evansville Fire Department district chief at the scene recommended evacuating indoor employees near the leak.

At one point, a first responder reported a strong odor of the chemical added to propane to make the odorless gas detectible.

Crews stopped the leak without further incident and employees returned to work.

The incident forced police to block traffic on streets around the Berry plant.
