SUV Hits Bicycle, Severely Injures Rider

File

73-year-old Clifford Dennis Engelhardt of Elberfeld was airlifted to St. Vincent

An SUV hit a bicycle in Warrick County Friday morning, seriously injuring the cyclist. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

It happened at Stevenson Station Road and Titzer Road in western Warrick County.

The sheriff’s office says the cyclist, 73-year-old Clifford Dennis Engelhardt of Elberfeld, was traveling north on Stevenson Station and was attempting a left turn onto Titzer when he was hit by a southbound SUV.

A medical helicopter responded to the scene and flew Engelhardt to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville with severe injuries.

Witnesses told investigators the bicycle turned into the path of the SUV.

Deputies say Engelhardt was wearing a helmet and flashing lights were working on the bicycle.

The driver and passenger in the SUV were not injured.

Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the collision.
