House Fire Displaces 4 Residents

Crawford, Jeffrey N

Wednesday's blaze at 616 E. Illinois St. heavily damaged the 2-story home

A house fire in Evansville has displaced four people. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Firefighters were dispatched to 616 E Illinois St. at about 4:00 Wednesday afternoon when neighbors reported flames coming from the back of the home.

EFD Division Chief Mike Larson says first arriving crews saw flames and started an interior attack.

Larson says crews extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes, but not before the blaze damaged the back of the structure extending up to the second floor.

No injuries were reported but the fire displaced four adult occupants.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the residents.

Larson says investigators believe the fire started in a bathroom, but the cause remains under investigation.
