The blaze severely damaged a Southeast Side home

One person was injured when fire swept through a home on Evansville’s Southeast Side on Monday. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Firefighters were dispatched to 2615 Sweetser Ave. shortly after 6:30 a.m.

First arriving crews reported flames coming from the front of the house and the occupant in the front yard with burns.

EFD Division Chief Mike Larson says crews immediately gave first aid to the occupant and attacked the blaze.

Larson says when AMR medics arrived they treated the injured person and took the victim to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in stable condition.

Larson says the fire was considered under control in about 15 minutes.

Video from the scene showed the blaze heavily damaged the single-story home.

Fire Investigators say it started in the living room and spread to the front porch, attic, and roof before crews extinguished it.

Larson says the cause of the fire is under investigation, no other injuries were reported, and CenterPoint was called to help with utilities.
