City Council Approves Budget with Raises

File

Big raises for the mayor and clerk remain along with funding for police and fire health screenings, but not AEDs

The Evansville City Council has approved a city budget that includes large pay raises for the next mayor and the incumbent city clerk. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The council rejected amendments from council member Missy Mosby, who wanted the money earmarked for the raises to go to health screenings for firefighters and police officers instead.

Before the budget vote, Mayor Lloyd Winnecke’s administration moved money from other parts of the $400 million budget to the health screenings.

The next mayor will see a 34% pay raise to about $134,000 a year, while incumbent City Clerk Laura Windhorst will receive a roughly 37% raise.

The goal is to make those salaries competitive with other similar sized cities.

Voters will decide the next Evansville mayor during the November 7th election.

Clerk Windhorst is unopposed.
