Help for Twin Bridges Expected by Friday

KTC: Crews will install a second southbound lane on the northbound bridge

Officials say a plan to alleviate traffic backups on the Twin Bridges should be in place by the end of the week. WNIN’s John Gibson has the latest:

One lane of the southbound bridge is closed for a lengthy inspection, and the closure has backed up Evansville-to-Henderson traffic -- especially during the evening commute.

Now, Kentucky Transportation Secretary Jim Gray says crews will open a third lane on the northbound bridge for southbound traffic.

It will require reduced speed limits but will provide two lanes in each direction.

The transportation cabinet has installed a similar pattern for lengthy projects in the past.

Gray says the new traffic alignment will include a crossover near Ellis Park and should be completed by Friday.

He says the inspection of the southbound bridge is federally mandated and can’t be done at night.

Gray says the inspectors will work from sunrise to sundown to complete the work by November 18th.
