The 2023 Victory International Film Festival is Next weekend, held September 7th, 8th and 9th, with local, national and international films, guest workshops and afterparties

Victory International Film Festival

The 2022 Victory International Film Festival was only two days, because Festival Director Patrick Higgs was too busy working on an “A League of their Own” documentary.

This year he’s back to full strength, and so is the festival. This year the festival kicks off at Showplace Cinemas East on Thursday night — a new venue for this festival.

Higgs said they have films from all over the world, and local.

“… there's Portugal and Russia and South America and France,” he said. “And we're teaming those up, you know, with films that are made right here in Evansville, and all throughout Indiana and the United States. So you've got a variety.”

There’s $4,000 in prizes, including a $500 Indiana Filmmaker Award and a $1,000 best overall film award.

Prize Categories include general feature films, short films, documentary films, student-made films, Hoosier-made films and a Best Overall Film Award.

Tickets are $25 dollars for the entire weekend, or $10 Thursday or Saturday, and $11.50 Friday.

The festival starts at Showplace Cinemas East on Thursday. Other venues are The Victory Theatre, WNIN’s public theater, Encounter Church and Innovation Point.

Higgs said the goal is to showcase creativity, diversity and inspiration.

“There's women, Director films, there's films by black directors and Hispanic directors,” he said of the diversity of directors. “So there's a whole diverse crowd, I like to say it's a ‘smorgasbord.’ So you won't like every one of them, but hopefully we find something that you like.”

There will also be four filmmaking workshops. Topics are editing, writing and fundraising for films. There’s also a director’s panel.
