Cooling Center Reopens, Relief Coming

File

A temporary fix has been made to the C.K. Newsome Center's HVAC system

The City of Evansville has reopened its cooling shelter as the end of the heat wave approaches.

The CK Newsome Center is open from 8:00 until 5:00 Friday for residents who need to cool off.

The city had to close the center earlier this week when its air conditioning system went down,

Mayor’s spokesman Noah Stubbs says they've implemented temporary repairs to the HVAC, but the center is in need of a “long-term solution.”

The Excessive Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service is set to expire tonight (Fri).

It’s been in effect since Monday, with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90’s and heat index readings well into the triple digits.

The end of the heat wave will come with chances of thunderstorms through Saturday.

By Sunday, forecasters predict highs in the mid-80’s with lower humidity.
