Disinfectant Switch Coming to City Water

EWSU

EWSU: Utility will use a stronger disinfectant starting Monday

You may notice a change in the taste of your tap water next week. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility says it will temporarily change the disinfectant used in the water treatment process.

The switch will begin Monday and continue until October 16th.

The utility will be switching from Chloramine to the more potent free chlorine.

Both disinfectants are used to remove bacteria and viruses that can make you sick.

Free chlorine is a slightly stronger disinfectant that’s used to remove more resistant bacteria and viruses that may be found in the water distribution system.

The water and sewer utility assures customers the drinking water will be regularly monitored to ensure that it exceeds federal standards.
