Meantime, an Excessive Heat Warning continues through Thursday

Officials have extended the Air Quality Alert through Tuesday. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is forecasting high ozone levels to continue in both southwest and southeast Indiana.

IDEM says hot temperatures combined with light winds will cause unhealthy conditions for sensitive groups -- including children, the elderly and those with lung or heart conditions.

You can help reduce emissions by carpooling, using public transportation, or working from home if possible.

You’re also urged to wait until evening to fuel your vehicle.

Meantime, an Excessive Heat Warning continues for southwest Indiana, southeast Illinois, and western Kentucky through Thursday.

Everyone is advised to stay hydrated, take advantage of air conditioning as much as possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

The city of Evansville is offering a daytime cooling shelter at the CK Newsome Center through Friday.
