FEMA Sending $5.8 Million to Dawson Springs

FEMA

The funds will help pay for the rebuilding of a housing complex leveled by the December 2021 tornado

Federal money is on the way to help pay for rebuilding an apartment complex that was destroyed by a tornado in Dawson Springs. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

FEMA has announced it will provide more than $5.8 million to reimburse the Dawson Springs Housing Authority for the demolition and re-building of the Clarksdale Court Apartments.

The powerful EF-4 tornado in December 2021 leveled 26 buildings in the complex, leaving residents of 50 housing units homeless.

FEMA says President Biden authorized a cost share reimbursement of 90 percent federal funding for the disaster.

The Commonwealth will provide 4.8 percent of the required applicant cost share, and the housing authority will only be responsible for the remaining 5.2 percent.

The Dawson Springs Housing Authority is a government agency that operates and manages public housing in Hopkins County.
