The agency says the sandbar could go away if another camper turns up

The Army Corps of Engineers has begun the annual process of dredging the Ohio River at Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The dredging removes silt and helps keep the river safe for boats and barges to navigate.

The process also creates a sandbar which some local boaters use as a miniature island.

Last year, someone infamously placed a camper on the sandbar. It eventually sank and its debris floated down the river.

The Army Corp has warned boaters not to do anything similar this year.

Otherwise, the agency says it will change the way it dredges that will prevent a sandbar.
