Horse Died at Ellis Park in June

File

The incident followed Churchill Downs moving its spring meet to Ellis

A horse was put to death at Ellis Park last month. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

A Kentucky Horse Racing Commission Steward’s Report says the horse, I’m a Modest Man, was “humanely euthanized” after being injured in a race.

The report said veterinarians determined the horse suffered a “catastrophic injury” to his right foreleg.

I’m a Modest Man was racing at Ellis during Churchill Downs’ Spring Meet, which was moved to the local racetrack after a dozen horse deaths at the famed Louisville track.

The deaths sparked an investigation by the racing commission and the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority.

Authorities said they didn't find any difference in Churchill’s racing surface compared to previous years, but decided to move races to Ellis Park out of an "abundance of caution."

Many of the deaths at Churchill were due to leg injuries.
