A Stormy, Smoky Start to Work Week

File

Air Quality Alert extended, thunderstorms in forecast through Thursday

The Evansville area begins the work week with both storms and smoke. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The smoky haze that moved into the region over the weekend is expected to persist.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has extended Sunday's statewide Air Quality Action Day through Monday.

IDEM says sensitive groups should reduce or avoid exertion and heavy work outdoors due to high levels of particles from Canadian wildfires.

Those groups include people with lung or heart conditions.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service is calling for chances of showers and thunderstorms through much of the week.

The Storm Prediction Center is calling for marginal to slight risks of severe storms Tuesday through Thursday.
