IDEM: Smoke to Return on Sunday

File

The agency has issued a statewide air alert

More anticipated smoke from Canadian wildfires has prompted a statewide air alert for Sunday. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has declared an Air Quality Action Day.

The agency says more smoke and particulate matter will move into the state on Sunday, raising particulate levels to “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”

Residents with lung or heart conditions are urged to avoid strenuous outdoor activities on the alert day.

IDEM also encourages residents in bordering regions – like Kentucky and Illinois -- to heed the forecast.

The agency issues alerts based on air quality monitors throughout the state.

Air quality information for all Indiana counties can be found at SmogWatch.IN.gov
