Storms Rake Tri-State, More Possible

Vanderburgh County EMA

Thursday's storms damaged trees, homes, vehicles, and knocked out power to thousands

The Tri-State is recovering from several rounds of severe storms and more are in the forecast. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Waves of storms pushed through the Evansville area, flooding streets, downing trees, limbs, and power lines, damaging homes and vehicles, and leaving thousands without power.

CenterPoint Energy says its crews have been working around the clock to restore electricity.

The number of CenterPoint customers in the dark surpassed 17,000 at one point on Thursday.

The utility said that number was down to about 6,700 customers at 6:00 this morning.

The National Weather Service measured more than two inches of badly-needed rain at Evansville Regional Airport, where several flights were delayed.

Chances for more thunderstorms remain in the forecast through the Fourth of July.

Meanwhile, a Heat Advisory is in effect Friday with highs in the mid-90’s and heat index values in the triple digits.

And an Air Quality Alert is in effect for southwest Indiana due to expected high levels of ozone.
