The Evansville area can expect more smoke and heat on Thursday. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has extended its statewide Air Quality Action Days through Thursday.
At the same time, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for both Thursday and Friday.
Smoke from Canadian wildfires has put an unhealthy haze over the region and IDEM expects particulates to be at levels “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” on Thursday.
The Heat Advisory goes into effect Thursday morning at 11:00 and runs through Friday evening.
Forecasters are predicting high temperatures near 100 with heat index values of up to 105.
The Weather Service recommends scheduling strenuous outdoor activity during the early morning or evening hours, and knowing the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Experts also recommend frequent breaks in shaded or air conditioned locations.
